12 Barriers to Communications

JUDGING - jumping to conclusions about facts or feelings can prejudice and compromise commuication

1.Criticising - concepts of good, bad, right or wrong colour the truth
2.Name-Calling- type casting ' dumb' or 'clever' distract from the communication content
3.Diagnosing - constant analysis of the person/situation distracts from the message
4.Praising - often used to bait or manipulate people

SOLUTIONIZING - jumping straight to conclusions without having all the facts

5.Orders - barking orders seldom wins hearts and minds
6.Threats - threats produce negative committment
7.Morals - should and oughts create anxiety and caution
8.Excessive Questions - being drilled by Jeremy Paxman can be annoying and manipulative
9.Advising - advice is often ignorant of the facts, and assumes the recipient needs help

AVOIDING THE OTHER PERSONS CONCERNS- deflecting from the real issues
10.Diverting - re-directing the conversation means the original purpose is lost
11.Logic - logic ignores the key factors: which are feelings and relationship
12.Reassuring - simple reassurance is like praise, of no real value or weight
